PA regional meetup at Overbrook School of the Blind

The Overbrook School for the Blind (formerly the Pennsylvania School for the Blind) has been in operation for over 190 years.  The current location was once farming, and woods located in the beautiful neighborhood of Overbrook.  The sprawling campus and Spanish mission style architecture are a surprise to visitors upon their first sight.  

The school currently serves students ranging from 3 to 22 years old.  Along with the normal subjects, art, music and physical education, they also learn braille, orientation and mobility skills, how to use adaptive technologies to aid with learning and future job skills.

In 2019 a greenhouse was built to help introduce the students to the natural world in a safe setting and help facilitate an education curriculum that would unite the many departments of food service, maintenance, grounds, education and therapy.

The campus boasts multiple vegetable and flower gardens, an herb garden and the largest orchard in the city limits.   Please register first to let us know how many people to expect.  Dress for the weather, wear comfy shoes and bring your own water bottles as we try to limit our plastic waste.  Hot and cold beverages will be provided as well as light snacks.
